A group of local skateboarding dads, known as the Dad Skate Squad, have morphed into the Santa Skate Squad this holiday season. Their mission is to make Christmas a tad more rad for area kids.
The squad is raising funds to provide new skateboards, skate shoes, helmets, pads and skateboarding swag to local kids whose parents may not be fortunate enough to afford new skate gear for their kids.
The group has currently raised over $3,000 through fundraising campaigns on GoFundMe and Facebook as well as direct donations from squad dads.
Dad Skate Squad members will be on-site at the CityLink Center Christmas Gift Fair helping distribute the gear:

The Dad Skate Squad has partnered with Cincinnati and Kentucky-based charities and organizations including CityLink Center, Boys & Girls Club, Brighton Center as well as some local businesses to make sure the skateboards and gear get to kids who enjoy or have an interest in the sport – and don’t have the means to get new gear.
The squad has also received support and donations from local skate shops including Blacklist Boardshop in Lawrenceburg, IN; Westwood Skateboarding; Galaxie Skate Shop in Newport, KY; Unheard of shop, Cincinnati-based longboard maker Cincinnati Cruiser and national shoe brand DC shoes – who have all stepped up to support the cause.
The idea was hatched this fall on an Instagram message thread by skate squad dad Jason Margerum from Hamilton, OH.
“Skateboarding can be such a positive way for kids to build confidence, make friends and have fun,” says Margerum. “I had been thinking about trying to find a way that we could give back. I threw it out to the squad and we ran with it.”
The squad quickly rallied and spun up a plan to put the idea into action.
“Our hope is that some little shredders are going to be super stoked this Christmas,” says organizer and squad dad Jay Downs.
