School is right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean that the Fort Thomas Independent School Board gets a break.
They have already set their tentative schedule for the 2017-2018 school year and if the folks who set the Advanced Placement (A.P.) exams had their calendars set, Fort Thomas Schools would be getting out earlier than normal.
“One of the problems we have in creating this calendar is that a lot of the other calendars for this time period are not out yet,” said Jon Stratton, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. “We had some questions about A.P. testing and we don’t know when that is going to begin in 2018. We were getting out a couple days earlier, but since we don’t know when A.P. testing is going to be we’re going to play it a little safe so we’ve added two additional days at the end of May (23 and 24), which meant we had to take two days off in that second semester.”
Additionally, a few other changes were made to the tentative calendar.

“We are going to take off January 2, which extends the Christmas break a little bit. We also had a three-day weekend in February, so by taking off the 16th, we’ll have a four-day weekend there,” he said.
Graduation will be on Memorial Day weekend. Students will have 177 days and teachers will have 188 days in this year’s calendar.
