A bridge restoration project on the KY 1120 (Memorial Parkway) that crosses over I-471 is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 11. The project calls for the bridge to be closed to traffic and pedestrians for a 60-day period between late May and August.
“This is a routine maintenance project, but will have significant impacts to traffic using the Memorial Parkway,” said Rob Hans, chief district engineer for Department of Highways District 6, in Covington. “A new concrete bridge deck overlay will be placed on the bridge and, for pedestrian safety, a sidewalk will be installed.”
Prus Construction Company, of Cincinnati, OH was awarded the contract on a low-bid of $1.3 million.
Beginning next week, motorists and pedestrians will encounter lane closures that will eventually lead to a two-month total closure of KY 1120 between the I-471 south ramps (Exit 4) and I-471 north ramps (Exit 4). Additionally, there will be a 14-day closures of the I-471 NB entrance and exit ramps.
Message boards will be used to inform motorists of upcoming ramp closures. Motorists should plan accordingly by allowing extra travel time or finding an alternate route. The lane restrictions will remain in effect until work is complete, which is expected to be mid-August 2016.
