Fort Thomas is the home of many accomplished educators.  This year one more Fort Thomas resident has
had her name added to the ranks of the coveted Teacher of the Year recipients.
Mrs. Nancy Bailey was named the 2013 Kentucky Music Educators Association
(KMEA) Teacher of the Year.

A 20-year educator, Nancy Bailey teaches 210 students at
Woodland Middle School in Kenton County. Her students range in age from the sixth
and eighth grade.

Mrs. Nancy Bailey

I asked Nancy what she enjoys most about teaching?

She said, “I really love getting to know young people and
helping them grow through music, regardless of their abilities.  When we
were rehearsing on stage for a recent concert one of my students blurted out at
the end of a song, “Oh my gosh!  I forgot we are actually in
school!”  That was a highlight of the term for me, to think that
through our music she was transported!”

After teaching for two decades Nancy’s hard work with her students
and dedication to her craft was finally recognized. I asked Nancy how honored
she feels winning this prestigious award?

Nancy graciously answered, “Normally I like to be the behind
the scenes person, but I’ve discovered with this that it does feel nice to be
recognized for my work. I feel especially honored because every music
teacher I know works hard to help their students succeed every day.“

Teachers are not recognized or thanked often enough for the
time and devotion that they dedicate to students young and old.  Nancy Bailey is a benchmark educator who can
“transport” her students through her passion for music.

There are teachers that had incredible influences on
my education. I know a lot of our readers share similar memories with me and
know the importance of having such influential teachers in their lives. Nancy
Bailey joins the class of educators that influence and inspire us.
