– We’re up to our ears in fundraising cards at our house, as a second round of Highlands students came shlepping their discounts to local restaurants and dry cleaning last week.
I’m pretty sure it was the first year that the soccer program sold its own card, as the HHS Football Gold Card has long been a staple in Fort Thomas residents’ wallets and pocketbooks.
Overall, I like how the soccer teams went with the “less is more” theme. They offer 4 different coupon cutouts to 6 area restaurants (Mio’s, Rio Grande, Snappy, Subway, Tom + Chee, Mellow Mushroom, Dixie Chili and Abuelo’s).
I can’t even tell you the last time I actually used the Football card. I often forget what’s on it.
– The joint Highlands/Anderson soccer match ended with a 5-1 Highlands victory. The real story, though, is how both teams came together to support Clay Frink and his family. Both teams wore Pray for Clay shirts and lots were sold during the game to go towards his rehab efforts.
You can read about his progress here.
– As reported on a month ago on FTM, The Community Recorder had a follow up story on the renovation going on at Starbucks. Oh, the humanity.
– Don’t forget, Wine over Water is this Saturday. It’s drinking wine on a bridge. For charity.
– While we’re on the topic, the Charities Guild of Northern Kentucky is holding their annual “Happy Feet Ball” Saturday, October 27 at the Highland Country Club. There are two charities which will benefit. The shoe fund, which provides vouchers for shoes for kids in need and the Newport Police Community Fund. I’m sure we’ll have more information on this event as it gets closer.
